Emmanuel Diakomanolis qualified as a doctor from Athens University Medical School and after serving in the army as a medical officer he obtained a PhD as a Research Fellow, at UCLA School of Medicine USA.

He is a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Athens University Medical School and was Head of the Department of Oncology and Cervical Pathology at the 1st University Clinic in Alexandra Hospital until September 2006.

Professor E. Diakomanolis was one of the pioneers of the prevention of cervical cancer and the introduction of Colposcopy and conservative management of precancerous lesions of the lower genital tract in Greece since 1987.

He is also a member of 8 National and 5 international Societies and several European bodies. He has been a founder member, executive board member and President of several scientific societies at the Greek national level including the Hellenic Society of Gynaecologic Oncology and the Hellenic Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (founder and President for several years). At the International level he was a founding member of the European Federation for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (EFC),President elect 2001-2004 and Acting President of the society between the years 2004-2007.

He is co-author of over 150 publications in International and Greek peer - reviewed journals, and has participated in many International Meetings, presenting papers, as President of Scientific Sessions and as an invited speaker. He has also been invited as a speaker to several International Training Courses in Europe and North America, speaking mainly in the field of Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology.

Currently he is Scientific Director of Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology at IASO Maternity Hospital and he organises a yearly Colposcopy Training Course in Athens under the auspices of the EFC.
